Skyrocketing crime forces multiple Taco Bell locations in Oakland to close dining rooms: ‘What is Oakland coming to?’

Taco Bell fast food restaurant franchise owner says Oakland residents are upset. forced shutdown Their diner surrounding the rapidly increasing crime.

In one location, there were four robberies in the same month.

The location at 35th Street and MacArthur was last robbed when robbers used a truck and cable to steal a safe from the store through a broken window. Two of the four robberies occurred while the store was closed.

Only one Taco Bell location has an open dining room, but that location on Telegraph Avenue is going cashless to deter crime.

Kimberly Garibay, who works at a Taco Bell store near 35th Street, told KPIX-TV that the robbers also targeted patrons.

“They come from everywhere. They don’t just rob the store. They rob everyone in the store,” Garibay said. “That means it’s not as safe as it used to be. There’s a lot of crime now.”

A Taco Bell spokesperson responded to KPIX with a brief comment.

“Providing a safe environment for our Team Members and customers is our top priority at Taco Bell restaurants,” the statement reads. “Franchise owners and operators consistently evaluate and work to ensure a safe environment by implementing steps such as closing dining rooms and hiring security personnel, and we are responding to local law enforcement.” They have informed us that they are taking additional steps to do so.”

Residents expressed disappointment with the closure.

“I don’t think that’s cool. It’s annoying,” Joe said. She doesn’t have a car and can’t go to the drive-thru without help from her friends. “I apologize to our regular customers, but do you know what I’m saying?”

“It’s heartbreaking,” resident Charles James said. “I want someone to protect the people.”

Other business owners, outraged by the crimes that drive away customers, are considering boycotting taxes until city officials improve safety around the city.

Oakland resident Aliya Moosa told KPIX that crime in Oakland is only getting worse.

“You can’t comfortably enjoy a meal at the restaurant where you bought your meal, so it’s like they closed it down because of the crime rate or whatever,” she said.

“So what is Oakland trying to do?” Musa concluded. “Everything is getting worse. Things are winding down. You know, it’s really bad.”
