President Biden on Tuesday shared a message of unity and optimism heading into November after winning enough delegates to secure the Democratic presidential nomination.
“Four years ago, I ran for president believing we were fighting a battle for the soul of this country. Thanks to the American people, we were able to win that battle. And now… I am honored that a broad coalition of voters representing the rich diversity of the Democratic Party across the country has once again placed their trust in me to lead our party and our country. President Trump. Now, the threat of terrorism is greater than ever,” the president said in a statement.
He won the Georgia Democratic primary and received enough delegates, according to Decision Desk Headquarters. With this victory, it is almost certain that the 2020 general election will be a rematch between Mr. Biden and former President Trump.
“I believe the American people will choose to continue moving us forward into the future. After every crisis, America has always come out stronger and more united on the other side. This November will be no exception. I believe we will get it done together,” Biden said.
The president claimed that Trump was “waging a campaign of resentment, revenge, and retaliation that threatens the very ideals of America,” adding that “freedom and democracy are at risk.”
“Voters now have a choice to make about the future of this country. Are we going to stand up and protect our democracy, or are we going to let others destroy it? We are going to choose and protect our freedom.” Will we restore our rights or let extremists take away our liberties? Will we finally make the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, or will corporate greed run rampant behind the middle class? Do we allow them to do that?” Biden said.
The president will travel this week as part of a tour of battleground states following Thursday’s State of the Union address. He will be in Wisconsin on Wednesday before heading to Michigan.
