Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said Tuesday on CNN’s “News Central” that he will be leaving the House next week to “join this election cycle.”
Anchor Dana Bash said, “You just got back from a hearing and announced some big news before we even got into it. Are you planning to leave Congress at the end of next week?”
Buck said: Yes, I will resign my seat and create a vacancy in my constituency. ”
Bash asked, “Why?”
Mr. Buck said: “Well, Dana, everywhere I go in Colorado, I hear that people are not happy with Trump or Biden. I think we need to change our election laws here, and I’m passionate about it.” I’m going to leave here and fight to find the right organization to join. I’m going to start working on that problem. Not just the president, but the Senate, the House of Representatives, the local offices. We have to get candidates on the ballot. We have to find better ways to elect candidates and unite America.”
Mr Bash said: “You have already announced that you do not intend to run for re-election, so why leave the party now and leave a vacant seat in the party’s already narrow majority?” .
“Yeah, because for me it’s important to come into this election cycle and start talking about the issues that people are aware of right now,” Buck said.
