Trump Opens General Election with Commanding Lead over Biden in Ohio

Former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, will start the general election with a 9-point lead over President Joe Biden in Ohio, according to an Emerson College/Nexstar Media poll.

This poll was “sponsored by Nexstar Media.” released On Wednesday, a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in the Buckeye State showed Trump overwhelming Biden. Of the 1,300 registered voters sampled statewide, 50% will vote for Trump, while 41% will support Biden. The remaining 9% are undecided, but most are leaning towards the 45th president.

When undecided respondents were asked which side they would lean toward, 57% chose Trump and 44% chose Biden. Among the total sample, Trump’s lead widened slightly to 55% and 45% for Trump and Biden, respectively.

Mr. Trump maintains a commanding lead over Mr. Biden in a broader field, including independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. In this five-way race, Trump received 47% of responses, followed by Biden with 38%. Mr. Kennedy came in third with 6%, followed by Mr. West and Mr. Stein with 1% each. 70% are undecided.

Emerson College asked respondents to rate their commitment to the candidates they chose in a five-way vote and whether they were open to changing their minds. Just over 80% said they would “definitely” vote for their chosen candidate, and 19% said they might change their choice.

Emerson College conducted the survey from March 7, the day of Biden’s State of the Union address, to March 10, and the confidence interval is ±2.6 percentage points.

The poll’s release comes after Trump and Biden clinched their respective party’s nominations on Tuesday night. In a post on his Truth social, Trump said he was “very honored to represent the Republican Party as a presidential candidate.”

“Our party is united and strong, and we fully understand that we are up against the worst, most incompetent, corrupt and destructive president in American history,” he added.
