The estranged wife of Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuerman said Wednesday that he was “incapable” of carrying out the four murders he is accused of committing.
Asa Ererup, who filed for divorce from Heuermann days after his arrest in July 2023, said in a statement through her lawyer that she would “naturally give the benefit of the doubt” to her husband of 27 years. .
“We will listen to all the evidence and reserve judgment until after the trial,” Ellerup said, adding that her “heartfelt sympathies” go to the women known as the “Gilgo Four” accused of murdering their husbands. He added that he would dedicate the

Ellerup also claimed that since Heuerman’s arrest, he has been visiting him weekly at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead, but a Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said this was not accurate. He said that it was not a proper description.
“We have records of Asa Elerup logging into the facility seven times,” Victoria DiStefano said. he told Newsday.
Ellerp filed for divorce just six days after Heuermann was arrested in July on suspicion of the brutal murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.
Heuerman was also charged in January with the murder of Maureen Brainard Burns.
The Gilgo Four, all sex workers, were discovered on a Long Island beach in December 2010.
Six other bodies were discovered around the same time in remote areas of Long Island, many of which have been attributed to the Gilgo Beach serial killer, although no official connection to Heuerman has been made. .
The case was frozen for several years until former New York City Police Chief Rodney Harrison, then the Suffolk County police chief, reopened the case in January 2022.
Heuerman was linked to the case less than a year after authorities linked his DNA to the victim’s body.
The Manhattan architect and father of two has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
