Aroldis Chapman left fans perplexed on Tuesday night when a video of him groping an older woman’s breasts was posted on his Instagram Stories.
Jason McKee, Pirates beat writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; reported that “The woman in the video is his mother. It was an “innocent family moment” in which the family joked that Aroldis was a “mama’s girl” and couldn’t be weaned from breastfeeding.” In the video, he was seen behaving like a toddler. ”
McKee cited a source with “direct knowledge” of the situation.
The video shows Chapman, who pitched for the Yankees from 2016 to 2022, and his mother sitting on a couch while another man speaks in Spanish behind the camera.
The video thankfully disappeared from Chapman’s Instagram page, but it’s unclear whether he deleted it or whether it expired after 24 hours.
“My own $0.02 still seems very strange. It’s hard for anyone to make connections online or anywhere, culturally or otherwise,” McKee said. .
And few did, as commenters on social media expressed how creepy they found the footage.
Chapman, 36, is in his first year with the Pirates after signing a one-year contract worth $3.75 million this offseason.
The Cuban native started last season with the Royals before joining the Rangers on a loan deal and helping the Texans win their first World Series in franchise history.
Chapman could follow a similar path this season, starting the season with a team with low expectations and eventually being traded to a contender to add a hard-throwing left-hander to the bullpen.
Chapman’s time with the Yankees came to an abrupt end when he missed training ahead of the 2022 postseason, with a playoff roster spot already in jeopardy.
Chapman, who was also a member of the Cubs’ 2016 World Series team, did not directly address the video.
