A 36-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday during an argument with another man on a Brooklyn subway, New York City Police Department (NYPD) officials said.

“I sometimes say that the subway is a sacred space, a place where people live out the world’s greatest experiment in tolerance and diversity every day so they can live in the world’s greatest city, New York. So when something like this happens, when you bring a gun onto a train and start a fight, it’s not right. Authorities said the two did not appear to have known each other before the incident.
The 32-year-old man is currently “with detectives” and the 36-year-old man was taken to a local hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition. Officials said it is unclear whether the 32-year-old man will face any charges as the investigation is ongoing.
