They’re Not ‘Self-Hating Jews,’ They Just Hate You

On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Israel needs to hold new elections to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the midst of its war against terrorists, prompting widespread criticism. received criticism.

But Schumer goes further: naming Prime Minister Netanyahu is one of the four obstacles to peace. The remaining three are Hamas terrorists, on October 7, 2023 he killed 1200 people. Corrupt Palestinian Authority government. and “right-wing Israelis.”

At least as shown by the results of the last election in 2022, “right-wing Israelis” are the majority of Israel’s population, and right-wing parties have the largest majority any coalition government has enjoyed in recent decades.

Perhaps Mr. Schumer was referring to the small number of Israelis who have been sanctioned by the United States for what has been called “extremist settler violence,” but the violence is not sanctioned, and Biden has waived sanctions on Iran.

Perhaps Schumer is saying that the 500,000 or so Israelis living in Judea and Samaria, or the “West Bank,” are an obstacle to peace because they live in a place where Palestinians want a state. It may reflect a view common in liberal Jewish circles.

If there’s anything Gaza has to teach the world, it’s that settlements aren’t the problem. Israel removed all settlements from Gaza in 2005, which resulted in further increases in rocket fire and terrorism from Palestinians.

“Right-wing Israelis” who lived in Gaza abandoned their homes, synagogues and farms. They were not an obstacle to peace then, and they are not an obstacle to peace now.

Schumer’s view is that “right-wing Israelis” — settlers, religious Jews, and even just secular patriots who vote conservative for other reasons — are morally the terrorists of October 7th. , they are equivalent to rapists, kidnappers, and looters.

Maybe Schumer doesn’t really believe that.Probably the White House – later whitened keep your distance As his comments suggest, it was cynically thought that it would be a good idea for a Jew at the top of American politics to attack Netanyahu and Israel.

Whatever his motives, it is strange that Mr. Schumer has still not passed the billions of dollars in war aid promised to Israel by President Joe Biden and passed by the Republican House. This is an unreasonable delay.

Some have described Schumer’s actions as those of a “self-hating” Jew.

I’ve never liked the word “self-loathing.” It’s both ugly and inaccurate. The truth is, Schumer loves herself. What he hates is another “right-wing Jew.”

So did filmmaker Jonathan Glazer, who spoke for those who argue against Israel’s “hijacking of Jewishness and the Holocaust” in his Oscar acceptance speech on Sunday, justifying the “occupation” and war in Gaza. did.

In fact, Glaser has no problem exploiting the Holocaust. He used the murder of 6 million Jews to win a small gold statue in a Holocaust movie so he could stand on a platform to disparage the Jews who are fighting for their lives today.

and Haley Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America. protect Schumer claimed he was only saying “what the vast majority of American Jews think.”

That’s not true. Whatever their opinion of Netanyahu, and many American Jews, like many Israelis, are critical of him, they do not want the United States to interfere in Israel’s internal affairs in the midst of a war against murderous terrorists. Few Jews would approve.

All of this will make Hamas terrorists, Iranian sponsors, and Hamas fans throughout the Islamic world (and American college campuses) believe that they are winning. Perhaps it would be easier to confront “right-wing Israelis” than to confront angry voters in Detroit or Chicago.

Please remember. They will not spare the “self-hating Jews” when they come upon us. (They don’t even spare Israeli Arabs or Muslims.)

Thankfully, Schumer’s own election results will be announced soon, favoring Republicans to win the Senate. The only question is how much damage he and Biden will do by then.
