Derrick Henry reveals Cowboys never called him in free agency

As it turns out, Derrick Henry wasn’t likely on the Cowboys’ radar.

Henry, who signed with the Ravens, said:mad dog radioDespite losing starter Tony Pollard to free agency, “the Cowboys never made any calls.”

“I really don’t know what’s going on over there,” he said of the Cowboys.

Henry added in the interview that he is interested in meeting with the Cowboys’ brain trust, led by Jerry Jones, and joining Big D, where he actually lives in the offseason.

“I stay there in the offseason. I’m at the tail end of my career. It’s a great organization. It would have been a great opportunity,” Henry said. “But I’m grateful that I ended up here in Baltimore. It’s where I wanted to be. They wanted me too. It’s the perfect match.”

The Ravens signed Henry to a two-year contract worth $16 million on the first day of free agency.

He previously had a stellar eight-year career with the Titans, including six consecutive seasons with double-digit rushing touchdowns and 2,027 total rushing yards in 2020.

Henry now teams with quarterback Lamar Jackson, perhaps the most feared in the NFL, and the Ravens are on track to score 26 touchdowns in 2023, one spot away from leading the NFL.

Dallas still hasn’t solved their running back problem, so they should probably prepare to draft a running back instead of selecting free agency.

With Pollard gone, the Cowboys are down to Deuce Vaughn as the only active running back from last year’s roster.

Backup Rico Doodle is still a free agent and could return to the Cowboys, but no major moves were made.

Dallas could have chosen to bring in Saquon Barkley, but they could also have watched him go to the division rival Eagles instead.

The Cowboys own seven draft picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, with the first pick at No. 24.

Dallas is a typical rushing school, with a strong offensive line led by All-Pro guard Zach Martin.
