Body with ‘toes sticking out of the ground’ found in Florida backyard

The owner of a Florida home being renovated said he made a gruesome discovery Wednesday when he unearthed a blackened human remains in his backyard with “toes sticking out of the ground.”

Law enforcement officials say the gruesome discovery was made at a rental home in Jacksonville just before 7 p.m.

The homeowner was doing some yard work when he exposed parts of the body. he told News4Jax.

A woman who was helping renovate the home and working inside said the owner ran inside and told her to call 911.

“I said okay. I was shaking,” she told the station.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said she saw a human foot sticking out of the ground in her garden.

“They were all black. But I think that’s because of corruption,” she said.

“I just hope everything gets resolved,” the upset woman added. “My reaction to this is just insanity.”

Jacksonville County sheriff’s deputies rushed into the home and “observed two legs sticking out of the ground,” according to an incident report obtained by The Post.

The body was exhumed and taken to the Duval County Coroner’s Office. As of Friday, he had not been identified and the cause or manner of death had not yet been released.

A forensic team erected a blue tent in the garden Thursday and spent hours combing the soil for possible clues.

The owner of the property where the gruesome discovery was made said he had no idea who the body belonged to or how it ended up on his land.

“My condolences go out to that young man or whoever they found on my property,” he told News4Jax.

“No family should ever have to go through that. That’s the first thing I want to say.”
