A Georgia woman died in an accident while trying to retrieve dropped AirPods at a golf cart factory.
Alyssa Drinkard, 21, was working her shift at the Club Car factory in Evans, Georgia, outside Augusta, on March 8 at approximately 9:45 p.m.
Witnesses told investigators that Drinkard dropped his AirPod earphones under a conveyor belt. Drinkard reportedly tried to retrieve the AirPods.
Witnesses said the woman was a contract line worker for Club Car and was caught in the chain moving the conveyor.
Witness Faizia Smith Said “I couldn’t get her out, so I called the maintenance guys to come and shut down the machine. Once the machine stopped, they started disassembling it and called 911,” Drinkard said.
Emergency services freed Drinkard “by cutting the metal frame around the conveyor and dragging him out,” the report said.
Drinkard still had a pulse when he was released from the machine. Paramedics performed life-saving measures before she was rushed to hospital.
She died of her injuries the next morning.
Drinkard reportedly worked for about a year at a factory that makes golf carts and commercial vehicles.
Smith said she can’t get the video of her colleague being violently assaulted at work from her mind.
“It was a little traumatic to see her like that,” Smith said.
Smith has not returned to work since the shocking accident.

A contract worker was seriously injured Friday evening while on the job at Evans’ main manufacturing facility. First responders were immediately notified and we are grateful for their quick response in providing medical care and transport to the hospital, where the worker unfortunately later passed away. Our deepest sympathies and thoughts go out to the family, friends and everyone affected by this loss. We are working with authorities and contractors to conduct an investigation to determine the facts surrounding the cause of the incident.
