$1.765B Powerball ticket from October finally claimed

Golden State has the golden ticket.

The California Lottery has announced that a person has come forward claiming a huge $1.765 billion jackpot win in October, the second-largest jackpot prize in history.

Theodorus Struck was named representative of a group of winners who purchased their winning tickets at a store in Frazier Park in Kern County prior to the Oct. 11 drawing. The mountain town has a population of approximately 3,000 people.

It’s unclear how many people are in the group, but locals say Struck is a 65-year-old man who lives just 500 meters from his family’s Midway Market store.

“He loved his grandchildren,” Struck’s neighbor Mary Dreyer told KGET. “He’s a really fun guy to be around. Yesterday I noticed he was holding up a no trespassing sign.”

Another neighbor, Rick Kotnik, told the magazine that he and Struck often talk at length about fishing, but he has no idea where his neighbor is now.

“If I had known, I wouldn’t have told you,” Kotnik told KGET with a laugh.

Under state law, winners’ names and store names must be made public. Other states, such as Arizona, Georgia and New Jersey, allow large lottery winners to remain anonymous.

Midway Market received a $1 million bonus check for selling the lucky ticket.
