Carl Banks slams ‘personal attacks’ on Eagles’ Saquon Barkley

Carl Banks wants Giants fans to cool off with Saquon Barkley.

Banks, Big Blue’s legendary linebacker; I spoke on the podcast “Bleav in Giants” He co-hosted with Bob Papa and spoke about his continued support for Barkley on the Eagles and his belief that some of the fan base’s criticism of the running back has gone too far.

“Saquon Barkley has carried this team. He’s a New Yorker, he was a Giant, he always will be a Giant,” Banks said.

“And that suits him perfectly. And I hate the energetic Eagles. I do. And I’m going to root for Saquon Barkley for 15 weeks. I wish him love and success for 15 weeks. In the remaining two weeks, I hope he gets 2 yards. And if they see him in week 3, I hope he gets less than that.

“Other than that, this kid was everything you want in a star player in or out of the organization. And again, I’m not naming every fan, but you We’re pointing out some of the behavior and rhetoric against them.”

Former Giants running back Tiki Barber joked on WFAN that Barkley, who signed a three-year contract with the Eagles worth about $38 million with $26 million guaranteed, is “dead” to him. Barkley eventually fired back at Barber.

For over a year, the Giants similarly didn’t sign Barkley to a multi-year contract with such a high number.

Banks said on his podcast that he understands that Giants fans may view Barkley as a “traitor” for joining their NFC East rival team, but urged them to refrain from “personal attacks.” Ta.

“I mean, I get it. You can be critical of him. You can call him a traitor if you want to, because that’s what fandom is,” Banks said.

“But part of the personal attack is, I understand he’s in his 20s. He’s somebody. He has a daughter…that’s heartbreaking, guys. And please understand this Do you want someone to do that for you? Go to your son’s job. Someone will come up to you and call you names like this because you changed jobs. It’s not like he didn’t come out for the sake of it. He carried this team on his shoulders.”
