On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” new york times Columnist David Brooks said President Joe Biden should act on the border, saying that Biden should roll back many of former President Donald Trump’s border policies and that Biden should reduce costs such as student loans. He pointed out that such administrative measures are being taken without hesitation.
“I think he should sign the executive order,” Brooks said. “I think there are a few things he could do. Stay in Mexico and stay safe. There’s definitely money issues, but I think he should sign the executive order. is taking executive action on all kinds of issues like student loan relief. So I think this is a good thing. Just politically, it’s a very good thing to take some action. [on]”
He continued: “Jonathan’s colleague David Ignatius has done a very good job. column About Mayorkas about a month ago. And at the beginning of the Biden administration, he claimed that he wanted to be anti-Trump on immigration issues. Everything Trump was for, he was going to be against. So there was a moratorium on deportations, or deportations. There [were] All other measures. They are [were] Planning to go — [do away with] Because they remained in Mexico, they held hearings in Mexico rather than in the United States, so they actually kind of moved to the left. Mr. Mayorkas had been trying to fight this all along, but now his administration has been moved and he is isolated from Republicans. So I agree with Jonathan that, ideally, Congress would pass a bill that would give Republicans 60% or 70% of what they wanted. ”
Brooks concluded: [the] Without that, it’s not going to happen because Donald Trump is against it, but I think it’s politically imperative that Joe Biden do something and see what happens in the courts. I think. ”
