Los Angeles has been mired in crime in recent years as the Democratic-controlled city and county adopted decriminalization policies and decriminalized a wide range of crimes. As a result, criminals have become emboldened and are targeting wealthy areas that were once thought to be free of illicit activity.

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón (D) has implemented a zero-bail policy that puts criminal suspects back on the streets before they appear in court. Later, when he faced a recall, he withdrew his policy. However, this policy returned in 2023.

Gascón also issued a policy directive to help illegal immigrants who commit crimes avoid deportation.

As Breitbart News previously noted, in Los Angeles, crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, armed assault, and robbery jumped nearly 12 percent in the 12 months ending in 2023.
