Last week, Denver police released body camera footage of the moment officers burst into the back door of a 7-Eleven and fired 36 shots, killing a suspect who was holding an employee hostage with a nail-pulver.
The police shooting occurred on the night of March 1 after Christopher Korsh, 43, and two others barricaded themselves behind a convenience store. According to the Denver Post.
Four police officers responded to a call of a stabbing and robbery at a convenience store and found the clerk “under threat” in a back room, Chief Ron Thomas told the newspaper.
Police used a battering ram to open a reinforced door and found Korsh threatening employees “with some type of sharp instrument,” Thomas said.
The object was later determined to be a 6-inch metal nail puller shaft.
“Officers realized the individual was in immediate danger and began firing at the individual,” the chief said.
Footage from the officer’s body camera showed the officer firing at point-blank range after the suspect refused commands to drop the weapon.
The police arrived and fired 36 shots in five seconds at the man, the commander.matt clarke told KUSA-TV.
Korsh died in hospital from his gunshot wounds, but the hostages were reportedly unharmed by the gunfire.
The four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on modified duty pending an investigation.
