Hilary Galaska, 29, did just that. To protect her twin sons, this heroic mother threw herself on top of them when an SUV barreled towards their car.
The mother died saving the twins.
It’s a tragedy that feels like something that should never have happened. The person driving the car that crashed into Hillary’s house should not have been behind the wheel. Authorities suspended his driver’s license and issued two additional warrants.
But sadly, in this broken world, other people’s bad decisions often harm innocent people.
The SUV was traveling at 90 mph on an interstate on-ramp when it struck the Saturn. Saturn was home to 29-year-old Hilary Galaska and her 5-year-old twin boys.
Before the accident, Hilary threw herself on top of her sons. And this heroic mother used her own body to protect her twins from the impact of the crash and lost her life.

The two boys escaped with minor injuries. All because their mother gave her life for them.

It was comforting to know that the twin boys survived, but it didn’t take away the heartbreak of losing their mother. This is the unimaginable suffering that Hilary Galaska’s family will have to face for the rest of their lives.
“She was my best friend and now she’s gone,” says a heartbroken Jody. explain. “She’s going to be in big trouble. She was my firstborn and she was so beautiful.”
The community has rallied around Hilary’s family and launched two separate fundraisers to support them during this tragic time. One is raising money to cover funeral costs, while the other is helping to care for the twin boys and an eight-year-old who was not with Hilary at the time of the accident.
