Minute Media becoming new publisher of Sports Illustrated brand through deal with owner Authentic Brands

Sports Illustrated has acquired a new publisher.

Minute Media will receive the brand’s digital and print publishing rights through a new “long-term partnership” with owner Authentic Brands Group. The deal was announced on Monday.

There were questions about what would happen to Sports Illustrated after Authentic Brands canceled its licensing agreement with its previous publisher, Arena Group.

Under the agreement, Minute Media will operate the editorial operations of Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and Sports Illustrated Kids. said in the news release.

According to the release, the company will “grow the Sports Illustrated media business by leveraging our premium sports content expertise and technology platform that powers the creation, global distribution, and monetization of hundreds of digital content brands. The plan is to continue.”

Sports Illustrated will join brands already under Minute Media, including The Players Tribune and Fanside.

Sports Illustrated writers at the Sports Illustrated Union say they “welcome” the change in publisher and “look forward to remaining part of the future of this storied brand.” said the union in a statement.

Minute Media CEO Asaf Peled announced his intentions to the New York Times. first reported On Monday, news broke that some Sports Illustrated employees affected by Arena Group’s layoffs will be brought back to the company.

At the same time as the licensing agreement was announced, the two companies also announced that Authentic Brands will become a shareholder in Minute Media.

Minute Media was founded in Israel in 2011 and has been around since. The company has received funding in the past from companies including Goldman Sachs, Battery, and Dawn Capital.

Its content was reportedly viewed by 200 million people each month.
