A conservative social media influencer is accused of helping people break into the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and pass stolen tables through a broken window, according to court records released Monday. He is facing federal charges.
Isabella Maria DeLuca, who has more than 333,000 followers on X, was arrested in California last Friday, more than three years after the riots at the Capitol.
Federal authorities say the 24-year-old Long Island native and former congressional intern passed a table from the U.S. Senate Terrace Room to other people outside the building and attacked several rioters who allegedly used it against law enforcement. It was one of them.
“This table was then used to attack law enforcement officers guarding the Lower West Terrace Tunnel,” the affidavit written by an FBI agent states.
The FBI claims the footage shows DeLuca entering a series of conference rooms in the Capitol through the same broken window and then returning to the area where the table passed.
Other images show DeLuca in a restricted area around the Capitol on Jan. 6, FBI agents wrote in the affidavit.
She was charged with theft of government property, disorderly conduct and entering a restricted area, all misdemeanors.
On the day of the Capitol riot and in the days that followed, DeLuca posted about the violence on social media, including how she had been threatened, according to court documents.
Around 3 p.m. on January 6, DeLuca responded to a Twitter post saying, “Are we going to fight back or let the politicians steal the election?” Counterattack! “
On January 7, 2021, when an Instagram user messaged him explaining why he supported the invasion of the Capitol, DeLuca reportedly responded, “According to the Constitution, this is our home.”
In a later post, she said she had “mixed feelings” about Jan. 6.
“People went to the Capitol because it is our home and where we go to receive complaints,” she wrote in court documents on Jan. 14, 2021. “People, like me, feel that the election was stolen from them and that they were allowed to do it.”
When interviewed by federal authorities weeks after the riot, she denied entering the Capitol, according to the affidavit.
DeLuca didn’t shut up. social media monday As her legal troubles became public.
“Thank you to everyone for your kind messages and support,” he tweeted with a heart emoji. “Thank you for everything.”
She also shared a legal defense fund that had raised nearly $1,800 as of Monday night.
DeLuca, a Setauket resident, is a former congressman’s intern. Lee Zeldin, who represents part of Long Island, and Congressman Paul Gosar, who represents part of Arizona. She also worked as a media associate for the Gold Institute for International Strategic Studies until the organization severed ties on Monday.
She is one of 1,300 people charged in connection with the Capitol attack.
