Jonathan Turley Says Prosecutions Of Trump Prove Him ‘Right’ About Weaponization Of Government

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said Monday that the “improvised” nature of the case against former President Donald Trump tarnished the image of the justice system and made it a target for a “weaponized” justice system. Trump said it proved he was “right” about the matter.

Trump’s lawyers said Monday that the former president is struggling to pay $454 million bail to cover a February ruling by New York Judge Arthur Engoron in a civil fraud case. Stated. Turley said the lawsuit filed by Democratic Attorney General Letitia James, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Special Counsel Jack Smith and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis targeted him. He said that Trump’s claims that he was in a position to do so had been proven correct. (Related: Trump scores ‘mixed victory’ in New York appeals court in civil fraud case)

“It is becoming increasingly difficult to deny that our legal system is now so distorted by politics that we cannot look at all of these cases and see blind justice. We’re seeing the opposite,” Turley told FOX Business host Larry Kudrow. Former Trump administration official. “Justice has been weaponized, and in many ways Democrats are fulfilling President Trump’s version. He’s right now. No matter what you thought at first, this The pile-on proved him right, and most of the nation understood that.”

Mr. Bragg secured an indictment against Mr. Trump in March 2023 centering on the $130,000 he paid to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016, while Mr. Smith was charged with handling Mr. Trump’s classified materials and 2020 payments. Secured indictment over efforts to contest presidential election results. Willis also secured the indictment of Trump on charges related to his efforts to contest the 2020 election results.

“Part of the reason all these cases are problematic is because they are improvisational, meaning what Bragg is doing has never been done before, and what James is doing is This has never happened before, and it raises a novel set of questions, and I think the public understands that,” Turley told Kudlow. “Now, is he going to go to trial before the election? That’s possible, but with all this piling up, it might become increasingly irrelevant to voters. The federal and state process. I think it’s caused a lot of damage to the image of the legal system on both counts, which is why many voters no longer trust these cases or the courts.” (Related article: ‘It’s a big deal’: Andy McCarthy criticizes Alvin Bragg for delay in disposing of doctor in Trump case)

“That means we need to see if there are still one or two judges in New York State who are willing enough to speak out,” Turley continued. “When you force someone to come up with $500 million just to file an appeal? Someone has to say enough. This is not how New York should be.”
