Mike Collins calls Texas migrant deportation law ruling a ‘great win for America’

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) praised the Supreme Court for allowing a Texas law to go into effect Tuesday that allows state law enforcement to arrest people suspected of entering the country illegally along the U.S. southern border. did.

The Supreme Court gave the green light to controversial law SB4 in an order Tuesday, which Collins called a “huge victory” for the country. The bill, signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) last year, gives Texas law enforcement officers the power to arrest anyone suspected of entering the country illegally, with the possibility of later deportation or prison time. There is.

“You know, we’ve been saying for months that every state is now a border state, and of course Texas is great today,” Collins said on NewsNation’s “The Hill.” We won,” he said. “And it was a great victory for America as well.”

“And it shows that even if the Biden administration doesn’t secure the border, there are avenues for states to at least take control of their borders and stem the flow of illegal immigrants coming across the border and send them home.” Go home,” he added.

The order is not final and the case could later go to the Supreme Court.

Collins also said it would be a “great idea” for the Georgia Legislature to pass a similar law in Texas.

“Fentanyl is out there and Americans are being killed. Human trafficking is happening all over this country. We are trying to overturn every stone we can find to stop it,” he added.

Texas and the Biden administration have been at loggerheads for months over immigration policy, with Texas insisting it has the right to protect itself from immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. The Biden administration pushed back on that argument and asked the Supreme Court to block the bill.

“We fundamentally disagree with the Supreme Court’s order allowing enforcement of Texas’ harmful and unconstitutional law,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement. She added, “SB 4 will not only make Texas communities less safe, it will also burden law enforcement and create chaos and chaos at our southern border.”
