Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s “close friend in the business world,” refused to appear at President Joe Biden’s impeachment inquiry hearing on Wednesday.
Archer’s lawyer told House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) that his client was unable to attend the hearing due to “short notice.”
“It is patently unreasonable to provide public notice to a panel of witnesses on a matter of national importance at such short notice,” attorney Matthew Schwartz wrote to Comer, first reported on ABC News. report.
Former Biden allies Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis Appeared At the public hearing.
Archer previously told investigators that Hunter put Joe Biden on speakerphone multiple times with business associates.
Galanis confirmed Archer’s testimony. He said then-Vice President Joe Biden was on speakerphone with Biden’s associates, including a call with a Russian oligarch and former mayor of Moscow. He said that he had done so.
Archer’s family remains involved in investments made during Vice President Joe Biden’s tenure. His wife still owns a stake in BHR Partners, a Chinese investment fund with billions of dollars deployed around the world. Mr. Hunter’s lawyer, Kevin Morris, also manages Mr. Hunter’s stake in the fund.
Archer will likely serve a prison sentence. In January, the Supreme Court turned away Archer sued for his role in defrauding the corporate sector of a Native American tribe.
