Biden Nominee Supported ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban But Can’t Define Them

Nancy Maldonado, President Joe Biden’s nominee for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, supported Illinois’ ban on “assault weapons,” but responded to a question from Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA). It was not possible to define an “assault weapon.”

During Wednesday’s confirmation hearing, Kennedy picked up Maldonado’s signature brief supporting Illinois’ ban on “assault weapons” and asked what an “assault weapon” was.

washington times Quote President Kennedy: “You said, “Assault weapons are so dangerous and unfit for legitimate self-defense purposes that they may be banned.” Tell me what you mean by “assault weapons.” please.

Maldonado countered that he was “not a gun expert.”

President Kennedy said, “So you filed a brief, a brief on appeal, you signed it, and I don’t know what you said…and you said, ‘Abolish assault weapons,’ but what? Don’t you even know that you want it abolished?”

Maldonado said he had not done any research on firearms and “couldn’t recall the exact definition of an assault weapon.”
