On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Situation Room,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) argued against the United States that Israel is using weapons provided by the United States in accordance with international law. He said he had doubts. “This is a humanitarian disaster in Gaza and the deaths of many innocent people, including many women and children. We need to challenge them…the evidence they are presenting. We need to be more specific.”
Moderator Boris Sánchez said, “Senators, the last thing I wanted to hear from you about is the war in Gaza. Israel guarantees the United States that the weapons it provides will be used in accordance with international law.” I submitted a letter. Do you think that’s true? If it turns out not to be the case, should the United States stop sending arms to Israel?”
“The law requires that the claims of those receiving our military assistance be credible,” Durbin said. The deaths of innocent people betray this claim of the Israelis. I think we need to challenge them and make the evidence they are presenting more concrete.”
