After being released by a judge, a convicted mother-killer and serial fugitive artist left the California quarantine facility where he had been scheduled to stay and committed the crime again.
Ike Souther, 20, described by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office as an “extremely dangerous and violent” offender who stabbed his mother to death when he was just 13 years old, was released Wednesday after pleading guilty to felony criminal damage to property. It was done.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Larry Yellin sentenced Souther to 90 days in jail, followed by two years of probation.
Prosecutors said they were “strongly opposed” to a lenient punishment given Souther’s violent criminal history, which in addition to killing his mother included assaulting and shank three correctional officers in prison. . According to a statement from the prosecutor’s office.
After the verdict, Souther checked into Project Kinship, a half-house based in Sanaana, but then took off and never returned. He did not tell his probation officer where he was going.

Project Kinship is the same location Souther escaped to in April 2022.
Souther, then 18, removed his GPS bracelet and fled within hours of arriving at Half House. He was arrested a few days later at a homeless camp in Anaheim after he was searched throughout the county.
Souther was convicted in 2017 of murdering his mother, Barbara Schauer-Souther, when he was 13 years old. Her man stabbed her multiple times with a knife and left her bleeding on the ground outside her home.
Police said they were able to identify his son as the killer before Shire Souther, 48, succumbed to his injuries.
In 2019, Souther snuck out of a locked room at the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center in the middle of the night and climbed over the perimeter fence.
He was rearrested the same day at a McDonald’s in Anaheim.
The Orange County Prosecutor’s Office warned Thursday that Souther poses a “serious threat to public safety.”
