Texas school bus with over 40 pre-K students crashes, killing 2: authorities

Cockrell said other injured people were airlifted to hospitals, but it was unclear how many.

The Hays Consolidated Independent School District announced that the bus was involved in a “serious accident” while returning from a field trip to the zoo.

The school district said the passengers included 44 students and 11 adults.

A large presence of first responders and emergency vehicles could be seen along the tree-lined road after the accident, and the bus was upright but leaning to one side.

The upper front of the bus was crumpled and a large portion of another vehicle nearby was crushed. Personal belongings were scattered on the highway.

The students attend Tom Green Elementary School in Buda, about 16 miles (25 kilometers) southwest of Austin, the school district said.

The school district said parents of students on the bus have been notified of the accident and are working to reunite them.
