Plus size influencer complains in viral TikTok video about flying, and the backlash is fierce

Performed by a self-proclaimed plus-size fashion influencer viral After posting a TikTok video explaining the difficulties plus-size people face on flights.

Alicia Gilbey said the plane was so cramped that she couldn’t unload her meal tray and had to squeeze across her seat to get through the aisle. The Canadian also had to use a seatbelt extender in his seat.

This video has since gone viral Posted in X, It received more than 15 million views on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Many people were outraged by Ms Gilbey’s attempt to blame the airline for her situation, and many of the reactions were negative.

“I wish the people on the TikTok video were on X too. They need to read the comments and understand that not everyone is following them and cheering in agreement. Yes. It’s not the airline’s responsibility to widen the planes for them.” read One reply.

“I’m not plus size and I think it’s crappy that I have to pay the same price as plus size people. Even though me and my luggage don’t weigh as much as hers, I feel the same… Do I have to pay the amount? Thin people should get a discount.” Said Another critic.

The video is not available on Gilby’s “curvy_chronicles” account on TikTok.

Fat positivity has become a controversial movement in the US as obesity rates decline skyrocketed For the last few decades. Obesity has increased by 70% in adults and 85% in children over the past 30 years.

In 2020, many fat activists were outraged when celebrity fitness trainer Jillian Michaels criticized people praising pop star Lizzo’s fat positivity. Michaels pointed out that you can enjoy Lizzo’s music without endorsing harmful and dangerous messages about obesity acceptance.
