Eleven people were shot, five of them fatally, between 6pm on Thursday and 6pm on Friday in Democratic-controlled Atlanta, Georgia.
WSB TV report The first fatal shooting in a 24-hour window occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, when someone was shot and killed at a “Campbellton Road apartment complex.”
Thirty minutes later, police received a report of a shooting on Powers Ferry Road and found 43-year-old Curtis Coleman dead inside his car.
Around 7:50 p.m., 29-year-old Faisal Norley was shot and killed in Duluth’s Pleasant Lake Village, and police believe the shooting was the result of an argument between two people.
The fourth shooting in 24 hours occurred early Friday morning when an unidentified person was shot and killed “in front of a tattoo shop on Chamblee Dunwoody Road.”
Just before 5 a.m. Friday, police responded to a fifth shooting. The shooting was reported to have occurred at 1783 Cheshire Bridge Road, where police found two people injured. One of the injured later died at the hospital.
Also on Thursday, People magazine announced Rapper Quavo is launching a $100,000 gun prevention program in Atlanta.
The $100,000 will be distributed in $10,000 grants designated to organizations working to reduce gun violence in Atlanta.
