The U.S. Army recently suspended a four-star general after documents revealed he allegedly interfered with the military’s command evaluation program.
Gen. Charles Hamilton, commander of the Army Materiel Command, has been temporarily suspended, according to a spokeswoman for Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth.
Hamilton is accused of using his high position to influence the approval of a lieutenant colonel’s command assignment.

The four-star general is said to have persuaded the board to grant the lieutenant colonel a second interview. Before that interview took place, Hamilton reportedly contacted potential panelists for the second interview to discuss the candidates.
The second committee also voted against the candidate. Police officers will be able to test their future ratings again next year.

Hamilton was reassigned during the investigation. Warmuth’s spokesman, Army Col. Randy Farrell, told The Associated Press that the Army secretary supports the integrity of the battalion commander evaluation program.
Farrell said once the investigation into Hamilton concludes, the Army will review its command evaluation program “to ensure maximum impartiality.”
A four-star general is the Army’s highest ranking, and only nine officers have ever achieved the rank of five-star general. According to the Army’s website, Hamilton began his work as commander in March 2023. Previously, he was a lieutenant general and served as vice chief of staff of the Army.
