Christopher Miner, 50, was found dead at Baker Creek State Park in McCormick County from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Mauldin Police Department. Park rangers found his car unoccupied and, after searching the area, found his body lying on the shore of Lake Thurmond.

Mauldin Police Chief George Miller said Maryellen Miner was found lying next to a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and Thrift was found inside the arriving vehicle.
Miller also said the shooting happened in front of people, including children, police said. It is unclear whether any minor children witnessed the incident.
Police issued a BOLO (“be careful” warning) for Christopher Miner, who was last seen driving a white Cadillac.

He was charged with two counts of murder and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm during an act of violence.

Police said her brother-in-law urged Maryellen Miner to report suspected domestic violence to authorities.
The police chief also urged those who may be experiencing domestic violence to seek help.
“If you are a victim of domestic violence, please report it so we can help you and prevent this from happening again,” Miller said.
