Indiana State Police shot by man in Motel 6 bed

One person was killed and five others, including a police officer, were injured in a shooting in Indianapolis early Sunday morning, police said.
Chief Christopher Bailey said in a news conference that two Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers in full uniform were working off-duty at a bar in the 9400 block of East Washington Street when a disturbance broke out in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m. He said that he was doing so.
Both officers exchanged gunfire with at least one suspect, and one officer was shot in the upper thigh and suffered a shoulder injury, which may have occurred when he fell after being shot, Bailey said. The officer was said to be in stable condition and expected to recover. He is scheduled to be discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

Additional officers responded and found four other people who had been shot in the parking lot. All were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Mr Bailey said the victims included two 45-year-old men, a 42-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman.

A short time later, a man arrived at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis with gunshot wounds and died despite treatment by medical staff. Detectives believe he was involved in the shooting. The Marion County Coroner’s Office plans to release his name after his next of kin is notified, Bailey said.

Bailey said a gun was found in the parking lot and investigators did not immediately know what caused the initial disturbance in the parking lot, but they interviewed witnesses and reviewed video tape. He added that there is.
