Alabama man faces manslaughter charges for shooting his son's girlfriend

Father of School Shooting Suspect Convicted of Murder

An Alabama man faces serious charges related to the shooting death of his son’s girlfriend, who was just beginning her career after graduating from Auburn University. This tragic event unfolded two months ago when Whitney Harlow Robson, 22, from Virginia, was fatally shot at a residence in Trussville, about 24 miles from Birmingham.

The incident occurred on March 7, and police were alerted around 9:30 p.m. Emergency responders transported Robson to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead within an hour.

Following an extensive investigation, authorities recently arrested Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, on charges of reckless manslaughter. Records indicate that both he and his son are Auburn alumni and residents of the Deer Trail home.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are not clear from the court documents, except for the allegation that Towers fired the shots that killed Robson.

In a prepared statement, Towers’ attorneys labeled Robson’s passing a “tragic event.” They expressed confidence in their client’s character, emphasizing that he has no criminal record and has lived as a respectable citizen throughout his life.

Initial reports to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office described Robson’s death as accidental, a detail that has drawn some scrutiny. Robson had dreamed of a career in interior design since childhood, motivated by seeing it on a show.

After earning honors from Auburn University’s interior design program, Robson secured a position as a trade consultant for RH, previously known as Restoration Hardware. Growing up in Richmond, Virginia, she worked as a lifeguard and a clerk in a local boutique.

Towers has since been released on a $30,000 bond and is set to appear in court again on July 22.
