A New York City mother spent several days recovering in a hospital bed after a shocking video surfaced showing her chasing the man who kidnapped her teenage daughter from her front door down several flights of stairs in January.
Surveillance footage shows a masked man jumping over a railing and grabbing an 18-year-old woman from behind as she approaches her apartment. The next moment, her panicked mother came running after her.
“Get those people out of here!” Adriana Alvarez shouted as the suspects slipped on the tile floor of the hallway and disappeared from view at the bottom of the stairs.

Much of the action unfolded downstairs.
Alvarez said. FOX5 New York Her daughter Rex was returning home from walking her dog on January 23rd when her former co-worker tried to snatch her from behind.

The mother suffered injuries including a fractured eye socket while trying to stop the suspected kidnapper.

“My first instinct was to pull her and try to grab her back,” she told the outlet. “As soon as I did that, he used pepper spray. He pepper sprayed me and took advantage of the time my eyes were closed to hit me. To hurt me. He kept grabbing her and trying to take her away.”
Another neighbor, Gus Bougas, heard the argument, went outside and attacked 25-year-old George Basiliu. He detained him until police arrived.

Vasiliu worked with the victim at a nearby grocery store until management fired him for allegedly stalking the girl. Alvarez said she has called police twice against Vasiliu and sought a restraining order against her daughter because of her creepy behavior.
Jail records list Vasiliu as 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 230 pounds.

Basiliu was being held on $50,000 bail on charges including attempted second-degree kidnapping, weapons possession, assault and robbery, according to city jail records.
He is scheduled to return to court on April 3.
