Santa will bring NFL football again on Christmas Day 2024.
The league announced Tuesday that Christmas this year will be played on a Wednesday, but two games will be played on the holiday.
Participating teams played on the Saturday of the previous weekend to maintain a recovery period.
The franchises that will be participating in the upcoming Christmas game have not yet been revealed.
This will be the first time since 2021 that an NFL game will be held on a Wednesday.
The game, between the Ravens and Steelers, was held midweek due to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday of the Christmas Day game that “COVID was really a learning experience.” According to CBS Sports. “[Playing Wednesday] It’s not an everyday thing. That’s when Christmas falls on Wednesday. The period between games has been done before. We have not seen an increase in injuries.
“When we first introduced this, we focused on Thursday nights and we didn’t see that increase either. I think we’ve solved this.”
Christmas has long been dominated by the NBA, making the holiday a battleground for sports fans’ attention.
But the NFL has played games on Christmas Day for the past four seasons and seven of the past nine years overall.
Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice president of media distribution, said: According to ESPNThis viewership number shows that there are viewers who wanted soccer on their days off.
“That idea, that opportunity and our belief that football brings people together is even more true during these big holidays that happen throughout the year,” Schroeder said.
The NFL regularly hosts games on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, but last season introduced a special Black Friday game.
It also hosts some late-season Saturday games, usually after the college football regular season.
Of the three major professional sports leagues that operate in the winter, only the NHL goes completely dark on Christmas.
