According to Maryland State Police, the incident is currently under investigation.

“We do not believe we will ever find these individuals still alive,” Maj. Gen. Shannon Gilreath said.

Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Browner Builders, said Tuesday afternoon that the missing workers were presumed dead due to the depth of the water and the amount of time that had elapsed since the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed. thing.

“This was totally unexpected,” Pritzker said. “I don’t know what else to say. Our company takes great pride in safety and we have cones, signs, lights, barriers and beacons. But we never thought the bridge would collapse. I wasn’t expecting that at all.”

A container ship crashed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday morning, causing it to snap and fall into the river. Several vehicles fell into the water as rescue teams began searching for survivors in search and rescue operations.

The cargo ship hit one of the bridge supports, snapping the structure like a twig. It fell into the water within seconds and the shocking scene was captured on video and posted across social media. The ship then caught fire and thick black smoke began coming out of the ship.

“I never imagined I would actually see the Key Bridge collapse like that. It was like something out of an action movie,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D-Md.). He called it an “unthinkable tragedy.”

One person rescued from the water was in stable condition but refused medical treatment. The other person suffered serious injuries and is being treated at a trauma center, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said.
