NewsNation host Chris Cuomo criticized NBC News’ decision to ban former Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel as a paid contributor.
“Why isn’t this ‘?”[former President Trump] And his people tried to rig the election, and we don’t want them,” he said on his “Cuomo” show on Tuesday. “Because there were a lot of Democrats who said President Trump won because of Russian election interference.”
“Now they didn’t do what Trump and his cronies did, they did what they thought was, ‘This is so offensive that no one even wants to discuss it,'” Cuomo continued. .
McDaniel’s firing follows backlash from the station’s staff over her hiring, including on-air, due to her comments and role in President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. That was it. NBCU News Group Chairman Cesar Conde announced the decision to sever ties with McDaniel in a Tuesday memo obtained by The Hill.
“No organization, especially a newsroom, can succeed without cohesion and collaboration,” Conde wrote. “In recent days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”
Rachel Maddow, a popular host on NBC’s sister network MSNBC, on Monday called McDaniel’s appointment “incomprehensible” and called for her network to end its relationship with the former RNC chairman. .
“Wait a minute and admit that probably wasn’t the right decision,” Maddow said. “Admitting when you’re wrong is a sign of strength, not weakness. And our country needs us to be strong right now.”
Conde also said in the memo that he would like to “personally apologize to the team members I felt I let down.”
“Although this is a joint recommendation by some members of our leadership team, I approve it and take full responsibility for it,” Conde wrote.
