Steve Belichick, the Washington Huskies’ new defensive coordinator, made some hilarious comments about his father, legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick, during a press conference Wednesday.

Steve joins the Huskies, who reached the National Championship Game last season, and breathes new life into the defense.

This came after a regime change in New England, where his father and the Patriots parted ways after more than 20 years of championship football.

The older Belichick was considered a top coaching candidate in the NFL but did not get the job.

So when Steve was asked about the similarities between father and son at a press conference, he decided to throw a joking jab at his father.

“I had a job, he didn’t have a job,” Belichick said, and the crowd erupted in laughter. “He knows that.”

Joking aside, Steve said, “I look up to my dad. He’s a mentor to me. But I’m me.”

This is Steve’s first college game. He began his coaching career on his father’s staff with the Patriots in 2012, working his way up through the ranks while serving as a defensive position coach.

Not only will this be his first job as a defensive coordinator, but the recruitment will also be new for him, although he has called defensive plays for the Patriots in the past.

“I’m excited to go out on the field and work with these players and work with these kids and recruit kids and just be myself. I’m not going to try to be him. No,” he said.

Steve said last month that his father may get a job in television for the 2024 NFL season.

“He’s definitely pursuing something else, whether it’s TV or being a regular on ‘Green Light,’ whatever it is,” Steve told former NFL lineman Chris Long on Long’s podcast, ” He spoke on “Green Light”.

“I think he’s a good player, you know. Let’s put things on our backs and move on. He’s not going to stay there unless we lose a game and need to take some guys down, but , eventually you have to turn the page. To be honest, , I wasn’t really involved in that kind of thing. He did his thing and I did mine .And that was kind of the thing.”
