A mass stabbing in Illinois claimed the lives of four people and injured five others on Wednesday.
An Illinois man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing people multiple times, killing four people, including a postal worker, and injuring five others. Rockford, Illinois, police said the attacks occurred in multiple areas and local authorities are investigating.

Officials said at a press conference that the attackers appeared to have chosen their victims at random. A young woman was seriously injured when she was stabbed in the hand and face during a home invasion.She is in critical condition and in intensive care, ABC News report. A witness tried to help the stabbing victim, but was also attacked and is in stable condition. Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana and Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd expressed shock at the violence. “Words can’t even express my thoughts right now. This is a pretty exhausting event,” Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd said, ABC News reported. “This was a heinous crime.”
According to ABC News, Chief Red confirmed that the attack only involved a stabbing and no shooting. The reasons for these acts of violence are still unknown and under investigation.
