But that’s not all! The fun is just beginning.

Q: You are a southern girl living in a concrete jungle. Let’s talk about the pros and cons. What do you like most about living in the city? Conversely, what do you miss most about living in the South?
DMcD: In New York City (where I moved in 1994), I feel like I live at the center of the universe. This is where you’ll find the best art, theater, music, and food.
On and on. Anytime day or night.
I love not having to own a car and being able to live “small” as my mom used to say. For her, that meant living simply.
There is no space here to pile up many belongings. Life is your adventure, not your possessions.
“Life is about adventure, not possessions.”
Cons: New York is really dirty.
I miss the tranquility of my small hometown. And my family.
But I’ve turned my New York City neighborhood into a small town. All you have to do is say good morning to everyone you meet (no strangers, just people you haven’t met yet) and ask their names if they live or work a few blocks around your apartment.
Staying in New York with these people during the pandemic amplified this sense of community.
Q: You graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in art history. What do you think is the most valuable aspect of a liberal arts education?
DMcD: I majored in art history because I love art and wanted to work at an art museum. I developed my writing and critical thinking skills and ended up living in Venice, Italy.
I would probably choose a different major today. At the time, Wake Forest was 1/10th the price he is now.
“Right now, I would skip college completely. I would get a job right after high school and learn on the job.”
these ridiculous college costs Force students to earn degrees in fields that will quickly lead to decent-paying jobs.
Actually, I was planning to take a complete break from university today.
I would like to find a job as soon as I graduate from high school and learn on the job.
Q: If you were to organize a movie marathon We’re talking about your favorite movies of all time. What three movies would be at the top of your list? Bonus: What snacks would you serve?
DMcD: “Goodfellas” “All About Eve.” “Fargo”
In that order.
I also make nachos.
Q: What would people be surprised to know about you?
DMcD: I mentioned this above. I’m very friendly even to complete strangers.
Q: What is southern? Dishes that make you feel relieved Does it always lift your spirits?
DMcD: Steamed blue crab. I harvested it outdoors with my family on a picnic table lined with newspaper.
Q: Name a moment or opportunity that changed your life.
DMcD: there are many. About 21 years ago, Neil Kabuto called me and asked me if I wanted to work for Fox News, even though I had never worked in television before.
Q: What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
DMcD: Traveling solo in Europe as a backpacker.
“We’ve guaranteed individual freedom because of the Bill of Rights[thanks to Patrick Henry]. That’s a very American thing.”
Mountain bike some of the toughest trails around Moab, Utah.
Moved to New York alone. He grabs a duffel bag and boards the train.
Q: If you had to describe America in one word, which word would you choose and why?
DMcD: freedom. We have guaranteed individual freedom thanks to the Bill of Rights (thanks to Patrick Henry). It’s a very American thing.
Q: What do you think every woman should try at least once in her life?
DMcD: To be alone. I don’t have a roommate. I don’t have a partner. Loneliness.
Q: What do you like most about working at Fox News?
DMcD: The people and their tireless work ethic.
