No one is saying Devin Singletary is a better or better running back than Saquon Barkley.
NFL front office executives and scouts didn’t talk about these players that way when they came out of college. Barkley was selected No. 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. A year later, Singletary went into the third round at No. 74 overall, a ranking that is fairly consistent with the league’s evaluation of the standings.
And no one said that while Barkley was running the ball for the Giants and Singletary was running the ball for the Bills and Texans. Barkley has exceeded 1,000 rushing yards in three of his six seasons. Singletary never reached 900 yards in his five years in the league.
Now, Barkley has developed his talent and will line up behind the most talented offensive line of his career with the Eagles. Now, at the age of 27, this second chapter will probably be his best work. There’s good reason to believe Barkley will thrive if healthy.
