A letter from Mr. Johnson to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., New York). published Punchbowl News detailed that the House will send articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to the Senate on April 10th.
As Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and Impeachment Managers, We are writing to let you know that we will submit it to you when the Senate returns on April 10, 2024. Articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have been formally passed. We strongly urge you to schedule a trial on this matter as soon as possible. On February 13, 2024, the House voted to impeach Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors, including willfully and systematically refusing to comply with the law. and a violation of his social trust. The evidence on both charges is clear, comprehensive, and convincing, and the House’s solemn act to impeach the first sitting Cabinet member in American history requires timely action by the Senate. [Emphasis added]
This methodical approach has led us, and the American people, to the conclusion that Secretary Mayorkas’ actions merit impeachment. He refused to comply with the requirements of immigration laws passed by Congress. In fact, through a series of memorandums, he directed DHS officials to violate U.S. immigration law. the result, The Secretary is responsible for releasing millions of illegal aliens into the interior and creating an illegal mass parole program. Throughout his time in office, he has repeatedly lied to Congress and the American people about the scope of the crisis and his role in it. His illegal actions are the cause of a historic crisis that has destroyed communities across our country.from the smallest border town in Texas to New York City. [Emphasis added]
The constitutional basis for Mayorkas’ conviction and removal from office is well-founded and the historical record is clear. The framers of our Constitution created this authority to protect against a scenario in which executive branch officials responsible for enforcing laws passed by Congress would ignore the law by substituting their own judgment for that of Congress. was given to Congress. [Emphasis added]
We ask you to fulfill your constitutional obligation to hold this trial. Americans want secure borders, an end to this crisis, and accountability for those responsible. Introducing articles of impeachment without hearing a single argument or considering the evidence would violate the constitutional order and be an insult to the American people we all serve. [Emphasis added]
“As previously stated, after the House impeachment managers submit articles of impeachment to the Senate, senators will be sworn in as jurors in a trial the next day, presided over by Senate President pro tempore Patty Murray. ” Schumer’s office said. Said In response to the.
Mr. Mayorkas has overseen a record increase in illegal immigration, as well as the creation of an extensive catch-and-release network that releases tens of thousands of migrants into the U.S. interior each month.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) called on Mayorkas to turn over records detailing all immigrants released during his term. However, the Secretary refused to comply with the request.
Under Mr. Mayorkas’ watch, DHS has released about 85% of all migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to reports. However, the secretary has never publicly acknowledged that figure.

“Secretary Mayorkas swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and faithfully carry out his duties, but he violated his oath of office, abused his authority, and betrayed that trust to the detriment of the American people,” RJ Howman said. said. The National Immigration Center (NICE) told Breitbart News.
“Rather than ignoring the Senate’s constitutional obligations and extracting even a single page from Mr. Mayorkas’ strategy, Leader Schumer must commit to holding an impeachment trial immediately.”
“Every senator should explain their position to the American people,” said Ryan Walker, executive vice president of Heritage Action, regarding Mayorkas’ impeachment.
“Do they want to show the country the evidence against those responsible for the deadly border crisis, or will they help Biden cover up the truth?” Walker asked.
