RNC mulls shutting NBC out over Ronna McDaniel firing

The Republican National Committee is reportedly considering plans to restrict NBC’s access to the party’s convention this summer after the network’s Ronna McDaniel debacle.

McDaniel was fired by the Comcast-owned network following protests by the network, home to left-wing stars from NBC and MSNBC, over the hiring of an individual with close ties to Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He was fired on Tuesday.

“We are seriously considering what this means for NBC’s participation in the convention,” said RNC spokesperson Daniel Alvarez, who also heads Republican candidate Donald Trump’s campaign. Ta. Thursday’s online news site “Politico”.

It’s unclear what Alvarez meant by “hard stare.”

The Post has reached out to the RNC for comment.

This isn’t the first time the RNC has battled with NBC News over bias.

In 2016, the RNC followed through on its threat to sever ties with NBC, denying the Peacock network the opportunity to host debates among the major candidates.

Then-RNC Secretary Reince Priebus was accused of asking “inaccurate or downright offensive” questions during the previous debate, which was moderated by a host from NBC’s sister station CNBC. I got angry.

The Politico article notes that the RNC may not have final authority over who has access to convention halls.

The certification process for media access to the convention is run by the House Periodical Press Gallery, the parliamentary body that grants media access to Parliament House.

“[If] The publication was certified by the Reichstag and one of the parties asked that the publication not be certified for the Congress, but we will certification the publication in any case,” the agency’s director , Rob Zatkowski told Politico.

“As far as I know, nothing like this has ever happened before.”

The McDaniel fiasco sent NBC into chaos, with one station manager telling the Post, “We need to get our heads around it.”

“Someone has to pay for the apparent lack of leadership on this issue,” said one media source who spoke to the Post on condition of anonymity.

Mr. McDaniel was with NBC News as a paid contributor for just four days, including Rachel Maddow, “Morning Joe” Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Jen Psaki, Nicole Wallace, He bowed to pressure from Chuck Todd and other top officials at the agency.

McDaniel was apparently too controversial a top talent for 30 Rock, largely due to his ties to Trump and his support for the former president’s attempts to stay in power after Joe Biden’s 2020 election loss. This was due to his alleged role.

In a recent interview with Kristen Welker on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” McDaniel said Biden is the “legitimate president” and won “fairly and squarely,” and criticized Trump for election fraud. I tried to distance myself from his claims.

Federal prosecutors who indicted President Trump for allegedly plotting to install a false electoral roll have acquitted McDaniel, saying he was misled by the former president and his ally, attorney John Eastman. Admitted.

But that wasn’t enough to appease Mr. Maddow, Mr. Scarborough, Mr. Brzezinski and others at NBC News and its sister business, MSNBC. Many of them vowed to keep Mr. McDaniel off the airwaves.

The fallout from McDaniel’s firing could hurt NBC. McDaniel, one of many RNC employees fired in the Trump campaign’s recent purge, reportedly hired a lawyer to pursue legal recourse in the wake of his firing.

Mr. Friedman has represented many prominent ousted cable news anchors, including Megyn Kelly, Chris Cuomo, Don Lemon, Tucker Carlson, and Sage Steele.
