Musk reacts to Xbox marketing manager ‘white dudes’ comments

A management-level employee of Microsoft’s Xbox marketing team has come under global criticism for defending the purported plight of a “minority” in the gaming industry.

Xbox Global Product Marketing Manager Kelly Lombardi joins a growing list of video game industry employees taking issue with fans’ rejection of a culture of diversity in games.

Lombardi has appeared in posts for the Xbox company since at least that time. 2022made a strange comment naming a white male video game player in a recent X post.

“Raise your hand if you are not white and buy video games✋,” said Lombardi, who also appears to be white.

“(I don’t mean to hate white people. It’s just another day where minorities have to fight to prove their place in the gaming industry),” she added.

About an hour later, she posted a correction, saying her previous post lacked proper context.

“I deleted my last tweet because it was poorly worded, lacked context, and did not accurately reflect my feelings,” Lombardi said before adding a general statement in support of diversity. I did,” he said.

“The gaming industry is incredibly diverse, and the more voices creating, watching, and playing games, the better. There’s room for everyone.”

This caught the eye of X owner Elon Musk, who hasn’t hesitated to come to the gamers’ defense in 2024.

“Racism and sexism against ‘white men’ should not be tolerated by any company in the gaming industry,” Musk said the following day.

As mentioned above, Musk joins a growing number of gamers rejecting the narratives of diversity, equity, and inclusion that are forced upon them through video games.

The SpaceX entrepreneur recently called leading DEI gaming company Sweet Baby a “bad blight on the gaming industry.”

“All they’re doing is making the games terrible and trying to get people to cancel. They can’t go bankrupt anytime soon!” Musk added.

Selective comments from Microsoft’s Lombardi did not sit well with readers, even from a distinct minority of gamers.

“Hey [Kelly Lombardi]. The only time I have to prove myself is to people like you who can’t imagine that a “minority” doesn’t agree with them. Then it gets ignored. Hello, I’m an Arab-American Muslim woman. I buy video games. I think people like you are racists,” the account said. hijabi gamer.

Hey [Kelly Lombardi], I’m a gamer and a “minority” (born and raised in Mexico) who takes offense to your racial baiting. You do not speak for us,” another X account wrote.

reddit user was similarly unenthusiastic about Lombardi’s remarks, with several comments pointing out the fact that she also appears to be white.

“White hand emoji. It bothers me every time,” one user wrote.

“‘I represent my identity group!’ I can’t stand these types of people. They’re absolutely obsessed with skin color and gender,” another person countered.

Lombardi has since made her X account private and her posts are no longer viewable.
