Sunday shows preview: Recovery ramps up for critical Baltimore port after bridge collapse

The recent collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge and the restoration of the city’s vital port will likely be the focus of this week’s Sunday news programs.

Gov. Wes Moore (D-Md.), who appears on CNN’s “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday” this week, has been in the media spotlight following the bridge collapse early Tuesday morning. The morning after the cargo ship lost power and crashed into a structure.

Moore on Wednesday called for “full accountability” after the incident killed six of the eight construction workers repairing the hole in the bridge. He added that a “full and thorough investigation” was needed.

“What caused this to happen? What caused the ship to lose power? Why did they lose the ability to operate the ship? We have the proper infrastructure in place to protect our citizens. “Is that so?” Moore said. “So I think we need a full accounting and full accountability. And wherever the investigation takes us to make sure the people in our jurisdiction are safe. I think I need to go.”

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, another vocal member of the response, is scheduled to appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday. He visited Baltimore on Tuesday, hours after the collapse, and said Wednesday there was no timetable for when the Port of Baltimore would reopen after the collapse.

“It’s too early to make estimates,” Buttigieg said at the White House’s daily briefing, adding: “The majority of the port is inside that bridge, which means a large portion of the port will not be operational.” Stated.

He added that reopening the port and rebuilding the bridge are separate issues.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) will also appear on “Face the Nation” this Sunday. Scott, a Black man, recently called out his critics after many labeled him the “DEI Mayor,” a reference to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) after the bridge collapse. He accused it of racism.

“I get what they’re saying, but they don’t have the courage to say the N-word. And there’s also the fact that I don’t believe in their false, false ideology,” Scott said Wednesday on MSNBC’s Joy. told Reid. “And I’m very proud of my heritage. Who I am and where I come from scares them. Because the fact that I’m in this position means that other people… They should be afraid because it means that their way of thinking, their way of living, to be comfortable while they suffer, becomes obsolete.” That is my purpose in life, so they should be afraid. ”
