The cat escaped, but caused thousands of dollars in damage.
A Florida woman’s car was torn apart by two dogs that tried to get to the cat that was hiding inside the engine.
Christy Bahr was shocked to wake up to find her car in shambles, which cost an estimated $3,000 in repairs. WJAX reports.
“I thought someone had taken a BB gun and shot at my car,” the Jacksonville woman told the magazine.
Barr called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and investigators reviewed security camera footage and found the four-legged suspect.
The video showed two gray dogs attacking the car, including tearing off its front tire.
“If they could do that to the metal of a car, they could tear a person apart,” Barr worried.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, the dogs ransacked her car after a neighbor’s cat got into the back of the engine.
According to WJAX, the crazed canines began invading the vehicle, damaging the front bumper, fender and two tires.
Surveillance video shows them tearing away metal sheets to get around the wheels, leaving deep teeth marks in the car’s frame.
Barr said the cat survived the witch hunt, but she is sure she would not have survived if the dogs had reached their target.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that if they had gotten that cat, she wouldn’t be here today,” she said.
Barr and her neighbors have no idea who the dogs belong to or where they went after the violent chase. The department said all neighbors were concerned for their safety and animal control officials had not responded to Barr’s calls.
For now, Barr, who has lived in the neighborhood for 35 years, is advising dog owners not to “take care of their dogs,” but to “keep them off the street at night.”
This is not the first time a dog and a car have collided.
A Texas dog destroyed a car at a dealership, resulting in $350,000 in damages. Several dogs attacked a G Motors dealership over three nights, tearing off bumpers and fenders.
One of the dogs, Dasher, was adopted after the event after medical staff found the dog to be non-aggressive towards humans.
