On Thursday, a runaway saw blade broke loose from a nearby construction site and hurtled toward an Oregon man who was lucky to escape with his life, ABC7 reported.
Surveillance video shows that just seconds before Shane Reimsch entered a Eugene convenience store, a 4-foot-tall knife came screaming across the parking lot and crashed into the store just inches from the door. It is said that he was slammed against the outside wall of the building. ABC7.
“I mean, it obviously wasn’t my time, but it was probably the closest I’ve ever had,” Reimsch said.
“When I was trying to get into this store, I put my hand on the door and I heard a loud bang and yelling in the corner,” Reimush told ABC7. I just saw smoke rise, a man fall into a ditch, and a four-foot-tall blade hurtling towards me. ” (Related: Video of ambulance narrowly avoiding overturned car on highway)

The store owner told ABC7 the impact of the knife hitting the wall was so strong that the entire building shook.
“We were standing behind the counter and all we could hear was metal rolling down the street, and we looked at the camera and it was just the wind blowing,” the owner said. “Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. The whole store shook.”
One of the contractors who witnessed the near-tragedy at the scene said that in addition to possible operator error, a missing bolt may have caused the blade to come loose, ABC7 reported.
Reimush told ABC7 he’s grateful to be alive.
“I thought maybe it was my time,” he said. “I don’t think he would have survived if he had been exposed to something like that.”
