Ramy Youssef advocates for peace in war-torn Gaza on SNL stage: ‘Please stop the suffering’

Actor and comedian Ramy Youssef used his “Saturday Night Live” monologue to call for the liberation of Palestinians and an end to the violence that has been raging in the Middle East for months.

The actor, known for starring in the Netflix comedy series Ramy, took to the stage to discuss his request for prayers for his friends. One of his prayers was reserved for the family of his friend Ahmad.

“I said, ‘God, please help Mr. Ahmed’s family. Please stop the suffering. Please stop the violence. Please release the Palestinian people, please. And release the hostages, hostages. Please release everyone,’ he said.

Youssef, like others in Hollywood, has been an outspoken supporter of a ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza Strip since Hamas militants launched unprecedented attacks on Israeli civilian areas last October. Some were later released, others died in captivity, and some remain in Gaza.

Youssef previously spoke to Variety about the matter on the red carpet, stressing the call for a ceasefire: “This is a universal message: “Let’s stop killing children. Let’s stop contributing to wars anymore.” did. ”

Other Hollywood celebrities, including Joaquin Phoenix, Susan Sarandon, John Cusack and Cate Blanchett, also called for an end to violence.

Stars including Jerry Seinfeld, “Stranger Things” actor Noah Schnapp, Natalie Portman and Mark Hamill have expressed support for Israel following the Hamas attack.

The conflict in the Middle East has also raised concerns that anti-Semitism will rise across the United States. This was evidenced in the subsequent months by testimonies from numerous Jewish businesses that had suffered corruption and from Jewish university students who complained that campuses were unsafe.
