Larry David told Chris Wallace to temper his enthusiasm for asking about the comedian’s net worth and rudely mentioned the late Barbara Walters’ sex life during a controversial interview.
The grumpy comic, who stars on HBO’s hit show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and is also the co-creator of the classic sitcom “Seinfeld,” was told by the CNN host during a sit-down on a recent episode. “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace,” which streams on Max, didn’t like the series of questions.
“It’s none of your business,” David said during the change of tone, and when Wallace pressed him for an answer, he also told Wallace to “shut up,” according to the interview transcript. Mediaite reported.
Mr. Wallace told David that he had read on the Internet that the co-creator of “Seinfeld” was worth about $500 million. The figure didn’t seem so far-fetched considering recent reports pegging his friend Jerry Seinfeld’s net worth at $1. a billion.
“That number is so ridiculous, isn’t it?” David replied. “That’s ridiculous.”
“How about $100 million?” Wallace asked, to which David replied, “How about $100 million?” Understood. Why don’t you just stay silent? is that all right? ”
Wallace told David that in one of the many television interviews he has given, “no one has ever said that to me.”
“Well, shut up,” David replied.
Wallace awkwardly steered the conversation back to David’s comedy career, but later in the interview the host admitted he was “trying to get over the silence” because it was “heartbreaking”.
“I think that’s a little hurtful,” Ms. Wallace told David.
“Curb your enthusiasm,” Starr replied. What about your question? What kind of question is that? “
“It’s completely legal,” Wallace told David. He then called out Walters and quoted her as saying once: “There are no such things as unreasonable questions. There are only unwise answers.”
David said he didn’t believe the statement was true, adding: “I wonder how Barbara Walter would react…”[if someone asked her]”Barbara, how many times a week do you have sex with your husband?” Do you give him head?
“Do you think she would want that?” David asked Wallace.
Ms. Wallace responded that she would probably say, “It’s none of your business,” but “I don’t think she’ll shut up.”
The newspaper has reached out to Wallace, David and Walters’ families for comment.
Walters, the first female television news anchor in the United States, passed away in December 2022. She passed away at the age of 93.
