Last week, a construction worker’s life was saved after falling into a 6-foot ditch in Georgia.

Paulding Country Fire and Rescue said a worker fell into a ditch due to a cave-in early Friday afternoon. Photos from the scene show the man was buried up to his chest.

“Shortly before noon today, Paulding County 911 received a call of a construction worker being buried.” [sic] It is falling apart,” the ministry wrote on Facebook.

“Paulding and Cobb County Fire and Rescue personnel worked together for more than three hours to safely extricate the buried man.” [sic] He was stuck up to his neck in a 20-foot-deep ditch. ”

Officials told FOX 5 Atlanta that the soil in the area is unstable, making rescue efforts difficult. Emergency workers scrambled to figure out how to get the man out without collapsing again.

The victim remained conscious and alert while emergency personnel attempted to extricate him. By 3pm he had been rescued from the trench and taken to hospital, where he was admitted in a “secured condition”.
