Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Monday that he believes President Biden poses a greater threat to democracy than former President Trump.

Kennedy Jr. appeared on CNN’s “Outfront” and said that Biden is “far worse” for democracy than Trump because the current president has “weaponized” federal agencies to censor political opponents. “It’s a threat,” he said.

“You could argue that President Biden is far worse,” Kennedy Jr. said. “That’s because President Biden is the first candidate and the first president in history to use federal agencies to censor political speech and his opponents.”

“The greatest threat to democracy is not those who question the results of elections, but those who use their power to force social media companies Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to open portals and give them access to them.” “This is the president of the United States who compels ‘reports to the FBI, CIA, IRS, and NIH to censor his political critics,'” he added.

Kennedy Jr. initially challenged Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination, but in October he decided to run for the White House as an independent to run against Biden and Trump in the 2024 election.

The comments came after President Trump repeatedly called him a threat to democracy over his role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, for which former President Biden was indicted at the federal level. It was issued. President Trump has falsely claimed for the past three and a half years that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him due to voter fraud, but in December he said Biden was the “real threat.”

CNN host Erin Burnett pressed Kennedy Jr. that President Trump’s alleged role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results was not a threat to democracy. Kennedy Jr. acknowledged that while the allegations against Trump are certainly a threat to democracy, Biden’s efforts to silence speech are even worse.

“If you’re trying to overturn an election, I think that’s a threat to democracy, obviously a threat,” he said. “But the question was, ‘Who was the more serious threat to democracy?’ And I would say, in answer to that question, the First Amendment is the most important. I mean, I’m not going to claim to be President Biden, Erin.”

Asked to clarify whether he could make the argument that Biden is worse for American democracy than Trump, Kennedy Jr. responded, “Absolutely.”
